My name is Matale Blender, and I am a holocaust survivor. I stayed in Auschwitz in 1944 for half year where I was taken from "Maidanek". Today, when we visited Maidanek, I could not set foot into the camp, because I was terrified and afraid that I would not be able to stand it mentally.
Now I have nonetheless decided to visit here, in order to honor and remember the martyrs who were killed in this place. I was here in this camp with small group of girls from Hrubieszow, there we witnessed and experienced the horrible hell. Day by day we saw the tortures, beating, humiliations and death.
We the survivors were not cleverer or more skilled than those who were killed. Only fate kept a small number of people alive.
